You can now mark Tuesday,2 August on your calendars as the date and day in which the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is officially unveiled to the world. The unveiling event will take place in London at 4pm,at the same time, unpacked events will also take place in New York at 11am EST/10am CST as well as Rio De Janeiro at 12pm. In typical Samsung fashion, fans can watch the unveiling through the company’s website, Samsung.com.

Besides announcing the unpacked event, Samsung went further to explain the reason for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 name, which was at odds with their usual naming order and the expectation of fans, most expected the device to be a Note 6.

Here is what Samsung has to say:

First and foremost though, you might be curious as to why it’s called Galaxy Note7 instead of Galaxy Note 6. There are a couple reasons why. First, the Galaxy Note7 will complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.

Going by the authenticity of recent leaks, it is safe to say that the unpacked event for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will not have much surprise in store for us, as a good number of the devices specs have been confirmed and the ones unknown should be known soon given the way leaks have been pouring in.

So far, we know that the Galaxy Note 7 will be sporting either 5.7/5.8-inch Super AMOLED Screen with a Quad HD resolution.

The Galaxy Note 7 will most likely run the new Android 7.0 Nougat layered with Samsung’s improved TouchWiz. Of course, we will certainly see the Galaxy Note 7’s trademark stylus pen. Rumour has it that the stylus pen and it’s holder has been significantly reinvented. We are yet to see any leaks as regards this. Perhaps, this is one of the specs, Samsung has kept closely to their chest.

An Iris scanner is expected, as the latest leak seen on Weibo confirm the presence of the iris scanner which will serve as a faster alternative to unlock the phone.
One of the leaked images comes with an instructional screen that contains information on how to unlock with the iris scanner, and another image shows what the smartphone would look like when the iris scanner is turned on.

According to the guide, the distance between the device and the user’s face should be about  25-35 centimeters, while ensuring that the eyes are positioned to point directly towards the two circles at the top of the screen, once this step is complete, iris recognition procedure begins, and the phone is unlocked.

The option to unlock with the fingerprint scanner is not totally eliminated and can be accessed through the home button. There are claims from a Zauba listing that the flagship device will be water resistant due to an unconfirmed IP68 certification rumors, making it the first in the Note series to have such feature. It is expected that the unit come with either the latest Exynos 8893 chipset or Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 6GB of RAM as well as a 12MP back camera.

It is likely that users will start purchasing the device as from August 2, the same day it would be revealed at the Unpacked 2016 event. This strategy will help the Korean giant meet up with the 2016 Olympics which kicks off on August 5. The price is yet to be announced Whichever way, come Tuesday 2 August, we will also find out.

This is all we have on the device for now. Rest assured we will give you an update as new leaks come in. Judging by the specs revealed, is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 worth owning? Share your thoughts in the comment box below
