Facebook recently unveiled its own Marketplace and in few days, Facebook users would be free to market their products with no restrictions.

According to the project director, Bowen Pan, 450million Facebook users market their goods on the group pages but with this new move, Facebook's new program, Marketplace is a formal environment where buying and selling of goods is promoted, a platform for buyers to meet sellers.

This new program requires no approval or fees before making use of the Marketplace. The Marketplace icon would replace the Facebook Messenger. When you click on the app, the homepage displays items you might be interested in and when you like the page, you get to see other items related to it. You can message the seller and place an offer privately. To sell a product, you simply upload a photo, set a name, description and price then confirm your location. Facebook hopes this new program would grow it expected 1.7 billion active users by engaging it users and getting more people to visit their site.

Marketplace which was unveiled on Monday would run in the next few days in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand and be opened for users over 18 years. Facebook would not allow the purchase of Firearms, Animals and Alcohol.

The purchase of goods are handled offline by the users. Facebook does not provide financial security or protection unlike eBay, Pan says they only have the tools to report any item that violates their policies.

Soon, the Marketplace program would involve more countries and a desktop version after been tested in New Zealand, parts of the US and Chile.

This feature is another means of connecting the world through Facebook.
