Windows 10 Anniversary Update is now freely available to smartphone and PC users already on Windows 10. Some users may have to wait for a while as the update will be rolled out in phases. Devices with a minimum of 2GB RAM and 16GB of hard disk capacity are compatible with the new update.

Lots of improvement were rolled out with the update. The Start menu has a cool makeover. When clicked,  All Apps list is displayed alphabetically, making it easier to scroll through on PC. As for Cortana, she is now better integrated across multiple devices, including Android and Windows phones. The voice assistant can now be used even when your PC screen is locked, she can also search through files.

Windows Hello is a newly introduced security option that enables users to log in with their fingerprints, facial recognition, or other biometric features. Windows Ink allows the use of stylus on touch devices like the Surface Tablets. Although Edge now has support for extensions, it still needs to be improved on. Windows Defender runs automatic background scans to help nip malware in the bud.

To truly enjoy all of these features, an upgrade is essential. Enabling automatic Windows 10 updates will prompt you when it is available for your device. Alternatively, it can be done manually by checking its availability status via settings at the Start menu. New Windows 10 PC will come with the Anniversary Update.

Users that failed to take advantage of the free upgrade that ended on July 29 will have to pay  £99.99 for the Windows 10 Home, while the Pro version costs £189.99.
